With my ambition to be a doctor in my near future, I wanted my capstone project to be related to medical stuff. It was an internship as a volunteer to work as a nurse assistance for 7 days (49 hours).
The department I choose is surgery. As I wanted to be a surgery doctor. For the whole 7 days, I wrote a journal for each day with reflections. Day 1 : I stayed in the back of the doctor room for the whole day. I didn't do any works, just observe the whole process of doctors talking to patients. Day 2-3: I started by doing documentary works with the nurses. My tasks is to scan the patient's barcode and print out important documents. The documents includes patient's prescription and medical history. Day 4-7: I got the chance of receiving the queue card from the patients. Then, I would figure out their room number and tell them. I also helped queued up the patients. Furthermore, I helped in sending documents to doctors. I've got some chances to watch doctor perform small surgery. For example, removing dead tissue from a bedridden patient. |
